Who is night nanny and what can she do for your family?

Night nanny is someone experienced/possibly qualified in childcare, most of those have years of working experience as a nannies/nursery nurses and work on temporary basis as a maternity nurses at the moment, or they can be mother’s them self, offering few nights of sleep for you with the hands on experience they have gone through on their own. Depending on what exactly do you need, you can either use non qualified mother/nanny who will settle your baby down to sleep, does night feeds where necessary without waking you up (only in case your baby is on bottle feeds), or if you are in need of establishing a routine for your baby/toddler and you are in need of intensive/consecutive help, you might reach for a help of maternity nurse/trouble shooter.

Nannies who offer sleep training/trouble shooting/routine help have excellent childcare-related qualifications or extensive newborn experience. These include (but are not restricted to) NNEB, NVQ level 3, BTEC level 3, midwifery/paediatric/neonatal qualifications.

They will also have undertaken a recent paediatric first aid course (not older than 3 years) and will possess an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau certificate.

Additionally, most of the nannies attend supporting courses such as Sleep Training course, post-natal depression course, breastfeeding course, and they tend to be familiar with different routine guides such as Gina Ford.

Usual duties for night nanny:
  • night feeds
  • change nappies
  • settle the baby
  • prepare and sterilise bottles
  • dress and prepare the baby in the morning
  • give help and advice on getting the baby into a sleep routine
  • offer strategies on coping with post-natal depression
  • stay longer in the mornings to allow you a lie-in
  • give advice on breast-feeding
  • she is NOT responsible for domestic cleaning or laundry

The total cost for use of a night nanny

1. Once a successful candidate is located, interviewed by you and accepted, we will charge you the registration fee of £90 + VAT, which lasts for 3 months from the first use of the nanny. 3 months should be enough time to settle your child into a routine and most nannies are successful much sooner.

2. Upon the booking of the nanny for exact number of nights, we will invoice you (usually on weekly basis) £15 + VAT per night booked. You can book the nanny for anything between 1-6 nights per week. Most of the parents make a booking for the first week and then depending on the process/success, they add more nights accordingly.

3. The nanny is to be paid daily/nightly every morning, on the agreed salary – usually around £90-110 per night (10-12 hours) this depends on the duties performed and experience/qualification of the nanny.
